The Kenya Shippers’ Council (KSC) is a private sector membership organization that supports Importers and Exporters (cargo owners) with policy advocacy regarding the movement of goods government regulations and operational constraints imposed by logistics service providers. Established in 2006, the mission of KSC is to achieve logistical competitiveness for cargo owners in Eastern Africa. As part of its growth plan, the Council wishes to fill the following positions:
APPOINTMENTS
1. Economist/Researcher/Analyst
The officer shall be responsible for research and analysis to enable the advocacy function of the Council to develop relevant policy positions aimed at addressing the concerns of Cargo Owners. He/She will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer with the following duties and Responsibilities:
- provide expertise in knowledge assembly and information management for the Council
- Collect, collate and analyze statistics on air transport, maritime transport, port performance, service transport time and costs, and any other relevant logistics statistics
- Collect, collate and analyze regional and global trends on transport to inform KSC’s advocacy agenda
- Continuously identify and analyze policies, regulations and legislations that have an effect in cargo movement in the region
- prepare quarterly statistical updates for membership communications
- Develop a reference handbook on Imports and exports for use by members
- Co-ordinate external consultancy activities undertaken by the council
- Undertake research and publishing of Quarterly indicative transport rates for use by members
Qualifications and experience
- A degree in Economics or Commerce with emphasis on statistics, logistics, supply chain or related fields;
- At least 3 years experience in research and policy formulation, interpretation of laws and regulations;
- Experience in usage of Microsoft Office software, quantitative and statistical packages and other research tools;
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and group communication skills.
2. Membership Development Officer
The officer will be responsible for development and implementation of Membership recruitment and retention strategy of the Council, and shall be responsible for the following duties;
- Identifying prospective member companies and recruiting them into the Council
- Maintaining an updated database of prospective members and ensuring regular follow up
- Subscriptions collection and follow up
- Developing and managing membership account records to ensure visits and service delivery to member companies;
- Attending various fora to identify prospective members
- Ensuring new members are inducted into the Council’s activities
- Contacting inactive members and ensuring they remain engaged
- Membership retention by conducting clients calls and following up on their issues of concern
- Lodging member complaints in occurrence book and ensuring their timely resolution
- Any other duties as may be allocated by the Executive Officer or the Chief Executive
Qualifications:
- University degree in Marketing, Communication or Social Studies
Experience:
- At least 2 years experience in a similar position
- Good customer relations and communication skills
- Good knowledge of current business issues in the Eastern Africa region;
- Understanding of the transport and logistics sector will be an added advantage.
3. IT/Web Content Officer
The incumbent shall be responsible for effective organization and management of ICT for the Council and shall perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- In charge of ICT implementation for the Council
- Network support and IP configuration
- PC support and maintenance
- Online Research
- Hardware maintenance for servers, desktops and other network equipment
- Liaising with the ISP on internet connectivity
- Develop and manage members database
- Design and update the website
- Procurement of IT equipment
- Develop ICT policy for the Council
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications and experience
- University degree in Computer Science, Business Information Technology or equivalent
- Age: 25 - 30 years
- Knowledge of design software e.g. Macromedia Dreamweaver, Director, Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw etc
- Minimum 2 - 3 years IT experience in a networked business environment
- Training and experience in Networking, Windows servers, HP hardware, Microsoft Windows applications
- Expertise in database management and website programming
- Good user support skills
- Good people skills
